Dr. David Hannon is a 1993 graduate of Auburn University. He has been practicing small, exotic, and zoo animal medicine in the greater Memphis area since graduation. He has been working shifts as an emergency veterinarian at the Animal Emergency Center since December 1993, and worked here as a veterinary technician prior to that. He started his veterinary career as an associate veterinarian at McGehee Clinic for Animals, where he worked for 4 years. After leaving there, he spent two years as a relief veterinarian before opening his own clinic, Vet Pets Animal Hospital and Pet Store, in 1999.
He became board-certified in avian medicine by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) in 2008, and in 2010 he sold the canine and feline portion of his practice and moved his avian and exotics practice to Memphis Veterinary Specialists. While at MVS, he also served as the primary veterinarian for the Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo, TN. In 2019 he left clinical practice and became the Director of Animal Health and lead veterinarian for the Hattiesburg Zoo in Hattiesburg, MS. He returned to Memphis in 2022 and worked at the Animal Emergency Center, becoming a full-time employee in December 2023, and accepting the position of Medical Director in March 2024. He has been married to his wife Tracy since 1993 and has two adult children, Jared and Devyn. They live in Arlington, TN with their cat (Scatter) and three dogs (Apple, Squirt, and Tink).
